BELINDA

Aren’t we forgetting just
one, tiny, little detail here?

JANE

What’s that?

BELINDA

We’re supposed to be
broken up, remember?

JANE

No, no, now technically,
we’re not broken up yet
because we haven’t made
it official— There’s a
big difference there.

BELINDA

By official, I’m assuming
you mean— telling the press?

JANE

Basically, yes… What
else would it mean?
We don’t have to tell
ourselves.

BELINDA

So… if we told the press that
the Go-Go’s were breaking
up… and then we went ahead
and made another album… that
would make us look pretty
stupid, wouldn’t it?
Don’t answer that question.

JANE

That’s why we’re putting it
off until this new album is
made… Then, we’ll make
it official.

BELINDA

Yeah, bullshit…
We’ll just make another excuse
to prolong things after that…
We’ll come up with some other
reason to stay together…
I’m never gonna get you guys
out of my life, am I?

JANE
(teasing and smiling)
No, you’re not…
We’re gonna hang around
together forever and ever
and ever…

BELINDA
(smirking back)
You think so, huh?

JANE

Yes, I do. We’re gonna stay
snuggled up with each other
forever and ever, because we
love each other soooo much.
Like one, big, happy family.

BELINDA

And that’s why we have to
spend LONG periods of time
away from each other…
Otherwise, we’re not going to
keep on loving each other..
You know what I mean?

JANE
(still teasing)
Because we’re
women, right?

BELINDA

That’s not the only reason…
There are many other
factors involved here.

JANE
(continuing)
Because women are petty
and catty and competitive
and mean and nasty and
backstabbing and…
am I leaving anything out?

BELINDA

Probably…
But I think you
covered most of it.

JANE

See, now, I disagree
with that theory.

BELINDA

How can you disagree
with it? You’re the one
who brought it up.

JANE

That’s not what I meant…
What I meant was—
I think we’re actually getting
better at not seeing each
other all the time… I think
we’re getting better at it
as we get older.

BELINDA
(snidely)
Oh, really?
You think so, do ya?

JANE

I think we are.

BELINDA

Jane… take a couple of
seconds to observe the
current situation that
surrounds you…You and
Gina are at my house at this
very moment…
That’s three out of five…
And Kathy just called me up
looking to see if I wanted to
go out partying this weekend.

JANE

Yeah, but now you got this
cute, little, snuggly, little,
snooky, little, moochie, little,
pookie, little, munchkin baby
at your house now…
We can’t resist that.

BELINDA

Which gives you a total
excuse now to come over
anytime you want now…
To play with Lorna.

JANE
(cheerfully)
It’s great, isn’t it?

BELINDA
(smiling and shaking her head)
Omigod..
The madness
never ends.

There is a
moment of
reflection.

BELINDA

You know what I was
thinkin’ the other day?

JANE

What?

BELINDA

How much I miss Margot.

JANE

Yeah, I know…
I do too…
She was a lot of fun.

BELINDA

She was real.

Another
pause.

JANE

Cuz’ .. ya’ know..
If it wasn’t for her…

BELINDA
(understands)
We might not be
talking right now.

The reality
hits hard.

JANE

That scares me.

BELINDA

I know.. Me too…
Cuz’ I…

JANE

What?

BELINDA
(hesitantly)
I can’t…

JANE

What?

BELINDA

I can’t imagine my
life without you.

Watch out.

JANE

You can’t?

BELINDA

Uh-oh.
Here we go.

JANE

What?

BELINDA

You’re gonna start
ballin’ again.

JANE

No, I’m not.

BELINDA

Yes, you are…
Every time I say something
sentimental to you, the
floodgates open up.

JANE

Oh, stop it.

BELINDA
(waits)
Go ahead.. get it out
of your system.

JANE

You think we’ll ever
see her again?

BELINDA

I don’t know…
I’m beginning to doubt it.

JANE

Well, hey,
Pete Best never talked to
The Beatles again.

BELINDA

Thanks for the
comparison.

Another
moment of
reflection.

JANE

So… you had a nice
chat with Myles today?

BELINDA

Yeah, I did…
It was nice…
I felt like we made
a connection.

Another
long pause.

JANE

You know what
I think?

BELINDA

What?

JANE

I think he’s gonna come
here on Friday and ask
you to marry him.

BELINDA
(wide-eyed)
Really?

JANE
(serious)
Yup.

BELINDA

And what makes
you say that?

JANE

I don’t know…
Just call it my intuition…
You know how good my
intuition is.

BELINDA
(teasing)
Sometimes.

More pauses.

BELINDA

Well, I hope
you’re right.

Jane is sensing
something
awful.

JANE
(curiously)
When he left today…
Where did he say
he was going?

BELINDA

He said he had to go up
to the family beach-house
in Santa Barbara and check
on some things… Then he
was coming right back…
Why?

JANE

Nothing…
I was just wondering,
that’s all.

BELINDA

No, no, no, don’t hand me
that shit, Jane… You wouldn’t
have asked if you didn’t have
something on your mind.
Now what is it?

JANE
(lying to spare Belinda)
I just… was worried about
his safety, that’s all.

Belinda is
not satisfied.

BELINDA

Oh, bullshit.
What safety?

JANE

I worry about him driving along
the coastal highway, that’s all.

Belinda isn’t
buying it.

BELINDA

Oh, no.. Nooo, no…
You’re not worried about his
driving… You think he’s
having an affair, don’t you?

Jane is
befuddled.

JANE

No.. no.. I don’t think that.
I’m sorry I brought it up.
I don’t think that at all…
I’m all fucked-up, I’m sorry.

BELINDA
(pissed-off)
Yeah, you’re all
fucked-up, alright.

JANE

Hey! Don’t yell at me!
I didn’t say anything!

Belinda is
flustered.
Then she feels
guilty about
yelling at Jane.

BELINDA

I’m sorry, Jane…
I didn’t mean to
yell at you.

JANE

You know I don’t like
to be yelled at.

BELINDA

I know, I know…
I’m sorry, honey.
I didn’t mean it.

JANE

It’s okay.

BELINDA
(apologetically)
It’s just that…
I get the feeling that my
intuition is the same
as yours.

JANE

Do you think he’s
seeing someone else?

BELINDA
(hesitates)
Yeah…
Yeah, I do.

JANE

I’m sorry, Babe…
You know…
When I said that I thought he
would come by this Friday to
ask you to marry him…
And then you said he took off
today to go up to Santa Barbara…
That’s when my imagination
went wild.

BELINDA

You’re thinkin’ he wants to
get in one, last fuck before
he commits to me, is that it?

Jane is
speechless.

JANE

I didn’t say that.

BELINDA

You don’t have to say
it, sweetie. I was
thinking the same thing…
Why do you think I said it?

JANE

If it is true.. And I’m not
saying that it is… I just
hope it’s not someone we
know.. Ya’ know?

BELINDA

You mean—
like a friend?
Or someone over
at the studio?

JANE

Yeah.

BELINDA

Well, if it’s someone over at
the studio, we don’t have to
go over there anymore, so..
I guess I’m not gonna worry
about it if it’s someone from
over there.

JANE

You know, we’re still probably
gonna have to do some filming
over the next year… We always
do.. There’s no way we’re done
yet.. Not completely.. There’ll
still be plenty of re-shoots in
the coming year. You can
count on that.

BELINDA

Well.. close enough,
anyway. It was just
a figure of speech.

Jane decides
to lighten the
load a little bit.

JANE

So, where did Kathy
want to go this weekend?

BELINDA

She didn’t say…
I’m sure she doesn’t care.

JANE

Did she want to come
over tonight?

BELINDA

No, why?

JANE
(smiling)
I’m surprised she didn’t
want to get even.

BELINDA

Get even for what?

JANE

You can’t guess?

BELINDA
(confused)
No…

JANE

To take over
the world

BELINDA
(suddenly gets it)
Ohhhh..
You mean— Risk !

JANE
(amused)
Yup.

BELINDA
(equally as amused)
No, she didn’t say.

JANE

Ooh, she was pissed
last time, wasn’t she?

BELINDA

Yeah, she was.

JANE

That girl does not like to
lose… Especially at a war
game. She always likes to
pride herself as some sort
of a four-star general.

BELINDA

Well, you have to admit..
we ganged-up on her
pretty good.

JANE

Hey, that’s the way the
game is played.. You form
alliances, then you stab
each other in the back
at the end.

BELINDA

She hates to lose at Risk
as much as Charlotte hates
to lose at Monopoly.

JANE

Well, that makes sense.
Remember the time she
whipped the dice at us?

BELINDA

Because she couldn’t put
two hotels on Boardwalk!!

They both
burst into
laughter.

BELINDA

She is such
a nut.

JANE
(laughter subsiding)
Have you talked
to her lately?

BELINDA

Not in the
last few days.

JANE

I don’t know, Belinda..
I’m so worried about her.

BELINDA

In what way?

JANE

Oh, come on.. You
know how weird
she’s been lately…

BELINDA

Weird for the
last two years.

JANE

Exactly…
I don’t know what’s going on
with her… She’s nice one second..
then she acts like she’s the
demon from Hell the next…
I wish she would just open up to
me… Tell me what’s goin’ on
inside her head.

BELINDA

I know…
I worry that we’re gonna
lose her forever.

JANE

I just hope that she’s not doing
something nefarious behind
our backs, ya’ know?

Gina interrupts
the conversation
by yelling from
the living room.

GINA

Hey!!!  What the hell is
going on in there?!!
You guys having a party?!!
Where the fuck is
my Bomb-Pop?!!

BELINDA
(yelling back)
Stop swearing in
front of my kid !!!

GINA

Oh, gee, I’m sorry!!!
Where is my precious
Bomb-Pop, my little
darlings!!!
