“Okay, so what does all of this have to do with Suffy?” asked Jane. “I wanna know so I can strangle her the next time I see her.”
“I already told you,” said Kathy. “Charlotte tracked her down because she thought Suff might have some keen insight on a good hypnotist.”
“That’s not even her field,” Belinda remarked. “I’ve never known her to deal with stuff like that.”
“Yeah, and she doesn’t even particularly like Suffy that much, either,” added Gina. “There’s got to be more to this than meets the eye.”
“Well, whatever… If there is, I sure as hell don’t know what it is,” said Kathy. “Unless…”
“Unless what?” Jane asked, suspiciously.
“Well… I have seen Suffy go in and out of Charlotte’s office quite a number of times in the last couple of years…”
“I knew it… See, she’s got something cookin’ with Charlotte.. and apparently, you don’t even know what it is,” said Jane, thrusting her palm out towards Kathy.
Everyone looked at Kathy, waiting for a response from her.
“Actually, you’re right,” shrugged Kathy. “I don’t know what it is… The truth is, I don’t pry into everything that Charlotte does… As long as it’s legal and we make money, what do I care?”
As it were, Kathy was still concealing Charlotte’s one, big, enormous, illegal activity. She wasn’t ready to come clean yet on this part of history.
“Well, you should,” said Gina. “Jeezus, Kath, you should be keeping a closer eye on her than that. Considering her condition and all.”
“Hey, look, man, Charlotte knows what she’s doing and now I know what I’m doing,” stated Kathy. “After two years of hanging around at the head of the company, I know what I’m doing now… I’m sure you guys aren’t complaining about your paychecks.”
“No… No, I’m just complaining about being sent away to a mental institution,” claimed Belinda.
Kathy glanced overĀ towards Belinda with a deep, sorrowful look on her face.
“Look.. I’m sorry about that, okay… I had nothing to do with that, you know that…”
Even though Belinda knew this to be true, she folded her arms and acted like she didn’t want to hear any kind of an explanation. She was still convinced that Kathy had betrayed her. And while everyone fidgeted uncomfortably, Jane’s curiosity finally got the best of her.
“Alright, so, let’s get back to this whole hypnotism thing,” she continued. “How the hell did all of this get started? I mean, I know you told us that Charlotte went looking for a hypnotist.. in order to cure this evil demon that lives inside of her… But, where did it happen? Where did you actually get hypnotized at?”
Kathy sighed and got started with the story—
“A couple of years ago.. after Charlotte had already confided in me about her illness… she came to me with this wild assumption that it might be possible for her to be cured through a certain kind of intense hypnotherapy… I thought she was crazy… And so did Suffy, apparently… We both alluded to the fact that it would probably be.. just a gargantuan waste of time and energy… In fact, Suffy, I think.. told her that there was a chance that it might even make things worse if she went through with it.. based on whatever knowledge of the subject that Suffy has… So, anyway.. Charlotte set up this party.. over at The Roosevelt Hotel…”
“The Roosevelt?” questioned Jane.
“Yeah… Apparently.. there are some.. fantastic urban legends about the place, I don’t know.”
“Yeah, it’s haunted,” revealed Belinda.
“Right, exactly,” Kathy concurred. “The perfect place for a se-ance.. or a wild, sex orgy.. or to.. sacrifice a giraffe, I don’t know, something like that.. Either way, the perfect place for Suffy to hang out.. if you catch my drift.”
Everyone nodded in agreement with Kathy’s asessment.
“So, anyway.. we get over to the hotel.. and the party’s in full swing.. Suffy’s got a bunch of her friends there.. You know, the one’s with the weird names?”
“I don’t know where she finds these people,” whispered Jane over to Belinda.
“I think she finds them over at the museum,” Belinda whispered back.
“The museum?” wondered Jane.
“I think they’re part of the exhibits,” said Belinda.
“Ohhhh, right,” Jane agreed.
“So, all of a sudden,” Kathy continued. “I start getting major, cold feet.. You know.. like I don’t even want to be there anymore… Like the whole thing is just giving me the creeps out my ass.”
“And Charlotte had already asked you to participate at this point, right?” asked Jane.
“Right.. she already talked me into it a few days prior,” said Kathy.
“Okay, go on.”
“So, naturally, Charlotte tries to talk me out of it.. You know, she’s all like, ‘Oh, come on, baby, I need you here.. I need you to support me. I need you to help get me through this,’ you know, shit like that.”
“Right.”
“And then.. all of a sudden.. out of nowhere.. she starts going through one of her transformations.”
Everyone gasped, “NOOOOOO!!”
“Well, I mean, it wasn’t anything severe… You gotta’ remember, when she changes into her other personality.. it’s not like she turns into Night Of The Living Dead.. I mean, most of the time it’s really subtle, you know. I mean, you can’t even see a difference.”
Everyone understood Kathy’s inference.
“So, what did you do?” asked Belinda.
“Well.. me and Suffy helped her to her feet.. and we took her to one of the rooms.. cuz,’ ya’ know, it was one of those huge suites… and we just lied her down on one of the beds, and gave her a moment to gather her bearings.”
“Did she recover?” asked Gina.
“Eventually, yeah, she did,” said Kathy.
“Omigod, that was close,” Belinda exhaled. “Man-o-man, that coulda’ been a total nightmare to deal with.”
Belinda’s reference to a ‘nightmare’ immediately triggered Kathy’s memory of that fun-filled day.
“Oh, and get this,” Kathy started. “Right in the middle of all this chaos… Suffy… that big-tittied bag of beefcake.. decides she’s gonna pull a prank on us!”
From experience, both Jane and Belinda knew exactly what Kathy was referring to.
“Yeah, she does that,” Jane agreed. “I don’t know why she does stuff like that. She gets the biggest kick out of that.”
Belinda was joyously intrigued. She had obviously experienced Suffy’s high-spirited sense of humor as well.
“What did she do?” she asked with eager anticipation.
“So, check this out… She fuckin’ closes the door.. And after Charlotte sits up and announces that she’s feeling much better and wants to go home… Suffy looks at her and says, ‘ You’re not going anywhere.’ ”
Both Jane and Belinda gasped again. It was a familiar scenario.
“Yeah! She locks the freakin’ door and makes it seem like she’s locking us in so she can murder us.. or do unspeakable things to us with her broomstick.. or something like that, I don’t know… All I know, is that I felt like I was gonna faint I was so scared… Whatever sinister role she was playin’.. she did a damn good job, cuz’ it scared the shit outta’ Charlotte too.”
Jane and Belinda were now laughing.
What did you do?” asked Jane, in between giggles.
“I screamed-out— Oh, my God, she’s a werewolf!!”
Everyone was now in hysterics from Kathy’s storytelling.
“What did Suffy do?” asked Gina.
Kathy paused for dramatic effect.
“The bitch started cackling like a wild hyena.”
