What are we gonna
do about this?
KATHY
I don’t know…
I think we just
have to be patient.
JANE
Is she making any
progress at all? I mean,
you’re the one who knows
about this.. Can you see
any progress being made?
KATHY
It’s hard to tell, ya know?
Most of the time, everything
is fine.. We conduct business
and everything is fine.. I
can’t tell one way or the other…
I will say one thing though..
JANE
What?
KATHY
It almost seems as if..
the business side of her life
is what triggers her other
personality.. ya’ know? …
There’s something about
doing business that seems to
make her nervous.. or
something like that… It seems
to drag her into.. another way
of living that she doesn’t seem
comfortable with… You know
what I mean?
JANE
Not really.. but I’ll take your
word for it. I mean, what do
I know? This is the first I’m
hearing about it.
KATHY
(opining)
It’s weird.
JANE
Well.. the business world is
pretty hard, isn’t it? At least
from what I can tell… Maybe
that’s it.. Maybe she wasn’t
born to do this.
KATHY
What do you mean?
JANE
Well, maybe she was just born to
be a musician and that’s it..
And when she got dragged into
all this other shit.. ya’ know,
acting on T.V. and doing business and
all this stuff she’s not comfortable
with.. it just fucked up her brain…
You gotta’ remember, Charlotte
is a shy girl by nature.. She
still throws-up sometimes before
we go on stage… Maybe this is
just all too much for her… Maybe
she just needs to slow down..
and she’ll get cured.
KATHY
(deep thoughts)
You know… maybe that’s it…
Maybe you’ve hit on
something, Jane.
JANE
Well, of course I have.
Did you expect anything else?
I’m pretty smart, ya’ know.
Also, I’m a little fucked-up
myself, so.. it’s easier for me
to figure this stuff out.
KATHY
Maybe I should just take over
the corporation for awhile and
let her get some rest… You know,
send her away to some private
island for awhile and have her
come back good as new.
JANE
Then we’ll go broke if we
let you take over.
KATHY
Not necessarily… We’ll hold
back your paychecks until she
gets back… That’ll save us
some money right there.
JANE
Funny.
They pause
for a moment.
JANE
So this is your big secret, huh?
The one you’ve been keeping
from me for over a year now?
KATHY
Jane, if you mention that
bathroom one more time,
I’m gonna make you go in
mine and clean the toilet.
JANE
I just wanna make
it final, that’s all.
KATHY
Yes, Jane, this is the big
secret I’ve been keeping
from you all this time now…
But it’s only one.. of the secrets
I’ve been keeping from you..
As you may have figured out,
I didn’t know about her
sickness at that particular time..
I only knew about the
off-shore accounts.. as per
my information from the now
deceased Anton Khudobin..

Belinda’s bathroom ever again..

KATHY

I’m sure you’ve been waiting

JANE
Actually, I use it

KATHY

Kathy is still
lying. She
hasn’t told
Jane about
Charlotte’s
narcotics
trafficking.
JANE
I can’t believe she knew about
Khudobin and she just strung
you along all that time.
KATHY
I guess she just wanted to
see what my next move was
gonna be.
JANE
That’s pretty sneaky of her…
I wonder when she found out?
KATHY
It probably didn’t
take very long.
JANE
How do you think
she found out?
KATHY
She’s got top-notch security
out the ass, Jane… She’s got
spies and operatives all over
the place.
JANE
Does she really?
KATHY
Yup.. Believe me, I know.
I’ve met a lot of them.
JANE
Wow.. that’s hard
to believe.
KATHY
Well, it’s true…
She spies on us.
JANE
That’s what Gina thinks!
Why would she spy on us?
We don’t do anything.
We’re not out to get her.
KATHY
I don’t know,
but she does.
JANE
So, does she know how
many people I sleep with?
KATHY
I don’t think she can
count that high, Jane.
JANE
(mockingly)

KATHY
Look, it’s all water under
the bridge now.. All we can
do is sit back and hope she
gets cured, ya’ know?
And keep our mouths shut.
JANE
Are you implying that I
can’t keep a secret?
KATHY
Yes.
JANE
You can’t keep
one either..
You told me.
KATHY
That’s different.
JANE
How is that different?
KATHY
Because you went and hired
a private detective of your
own, Jane… Behind our backs…
That’s what this is all about..
That’s why we’re having this
little discussion, isn’t it?
That’s why you came over here
tonight. Right? To have it out
with me? … To confront me
about Khudobin… Isn’t that it?
JANE
Yes.
KATHY
Well, there ya’ go..
We’ve cleared the air…
You confronted me and I
felt it was time to be honest
with you…
It’s as simple as that.
JANE
That doesn’t make a
whole lot of sense.
KATHY
(begrudgingly)
Well, it’s all we’ve got for
now, okay? Let’s just let it
go at that and forget about it.
JANE
I think you were just
itchin’ to tell someone
whether I came over
here or not.
KATHY
Stop being such
a smart-ass.
JANE
Well, I think this a
group thing anyway.
KATHY
What do you mean?
JANE
I think we should tell
Belinda and Gina.
KATHY
(doubtful)
Ehhh, I don’t know
about that one.
JANE
Why not?
Maybe they can help.
KATHY
How can they help?
JANE
I don’t know.. But I think
they deserve to know… They’re
every much a part of her life
as we are… Maybe they can
offer some.. I don’t know.. some
moral support or something.
Kathy
pauses.
KATHY
I’m reluctant to
tell Belinda.
JANE
Why?
KATHY
Because she really looks up
to Charlotte… I don’t want to
be responsible for causing some..
emotional trauma in her head…
You know what I mean?
JANE
I think you should be more
worried about the alternative
that could happen to you if you
don’t tell Belinda.
KATHY
What’s that supposed
to mean?
JANE
Like the physical trauma she
would do to your head if she
found out you were keeping
this from her.
