JANE

So, I suppose I’m outta’ line
by asking that?

KATHY

Yeah, Jane, I’d say you’re
outta’ line by asking that.
What the hell? What do you
think? You really think I
got it in me to kill someone?
Don’t you know me better than
that? Why on earth would I
want to kill Khudobin? I’m the
one who hired him.

JANE

I don’t know, Kath… This
whole thing is so fucked-up
I don’t know what to think.

KATHY

Well, I didn’t do it, okay?
So just get that thought
outta’ your head.

JANE

Then who did? We’ve
already established that he
didn’t die of a coke overdose.

Kathy has no choice but
to pause and think about
this. She has been keeping
Charlotte’s DID Syndrome
a secret for over a year now.
There are so many things
going on inside her head.

KATHY

I don’t know… Maybe…
I don’t know, maybe he
did die from an overdose.

JANE
(not buying it)
Oh, so now you’re backpedaling
on this, is that it? No… No
fucking way… You don’t
believe that and neither do I…
There’s something going on here
that you’re not telling me, Kathy…
You know something that you’re
not telling me and it’s pissing
me off… I don’t know why you’re
doing that to me… I thought we
were closer than that.

Kathy is in deep thought.
She is staring down at
the table and tapping on
it with her middle finger.
She wants to tell but she
can’t. She decides to give
lying another chance.

KATHY
(fabricating)
The only other solution..
at this point… is that
Rocco did it, I don’t know.

JANE
(beside herself)
And now you’re backpedaling
on that too… You just told me
a minute ago that Rocco didn’t
do it… and neither did Charlotte…
You were very adamant about
that… (pauses)
And even if Rocco did do it…
which, for the life of me, I have
no idea why he would… doesn’t
it bother you that some.. bodyguard..
has that kind of information hanging
over our heads? That he could
bribe us with?

KATHY

He wouldn’t tell anyone.

JANE

How can you be so sure?

KATHY

I just know, alright…
Why would he
admit to murder? Why
would he confess to
something he might
not have done?

JANE

Uh-huh… Something he might
not have done, eh? …
This is bullshit, Kathy…
You need to tell me what’s
going on and you need to tell
me now… I’m sick of all this
cloak-and-dagger bullshit…
What has Charlotte done?
Why are you protecting her?

Kathy takes a
long pause. She
lightens her
mood a little bit.

KATHY

I plan on telling you…
Besides, you’re the
one who’s in trouble… You’re
just deflecting attention away
from yourself.

JANE
(acting innocent)
Who? Me?

KATHY

That’s right…
You went and hired a
private detective on your own…
After we repeatedly told you
not to do anything.

A bit of a standoff
ensues between two,
innocent souls.

KATHY

I knew I should have followed
you… And then ran up to you
and dragged you away before
you had a chance to say
anything more incriminating
to that private dick of yours.

JANE

What are you talking about?

KATHY

I was informed that
you had something up
your sleeve.. okay?
Belinda told me.

JANE

Belinda told you?
When did she do that?

KATHY

That night.. last Tuesday..
when you and Gina were over
at her house playin’ with Lorna.

JANE
(confused)
Okay.. I remember last Tuesday..
but.. when did she tell
you? You weren’t there.

KATHY

She told me on the phone.
Remember when I called?

JANE

Ohhh, that’s right!
You called up to see if she wanted
to party with you that weekend.

KATHY

Yes.

JANE

Now I remember… And she
turned you down, right?

KATHY

What difference does it make if
she turned me down or not?

JANE
(giggling)
Nothing… I just think that’s
funny, that’s all.

KATHY

Yeah, real hilarious… I swear, Jane,
the things that amuse you..
I’ll never understand. She’s
waitin’ for Myles to come around.
That’s why she said ‘no.’

JANE

Poor Kathy..
Had to party without
her besty, little buddy
by her side.

KATHY

Quit tryin’ to change the subject.
You’re in trouble and you know it.

JANE

So that’s when she told you
about my appointment with
Mr. Sieganthaler? On the phone?

KATHY

Yes! On the phone!
I just said that!

Jane is thoroughly
amused at the fact
that she is pissing
Kathy off.

JANE
(laughing)
Okay.. I’m sorry.

KATHY

Jeez!!
What is your problem?

JANE

Well, how did she say it?
She didn’t know what I was
doing… I didn’t say anything.

KATHY

She told me you were up to
something. She didn’t say what.
She said you were being all coy
about something.. That you had
an appointment with someone
about the Khudobin situation?
And you wouldn’t say what.
Sound familiar?

JANE

Yeah..
that sounds about right.

KATHY

So.. I just put
two and two together.

JANE

That blabbermouth.

KATHY

Who? Belinda?

JANE

Yeah, she didn’t have
to tell you anything.

KATHY

Of course,
she had to tell me!

JANE

Oh, that’s right. You two
lovebirds tell each other
everything.

KATHY
(fed-up)
Oh, will everyone just
give that a rest!!

JANE

Did she tell you why I
refused to say what
I was doin?

KATHY

No, I don’t remember.
She just said…

JANE
(cuts her off)
Because I’m mad at you!

KATHY

You’re mad at me? Why?

JANE

Because you were supposed to
tell me some juicy stuff over a
year ago and you never did.

Kathy pauses to
think about this.

KATHY

You talkin’ about when we
were in the bathroom?
Belinda’s bathroom?
When we had to vote
on what to do with
Khudobin’s body?

JANE
(surprised)
Oh, you remember.

KATHY

Yeah, I remember.

JANE

Well?

Kathy has to pause
again. Indeed, this
is juicy stuff.

KATHY

I plan on telling you.

JANE

When?
It’s only been a year.

KATHY

Tonight…
I told you…
I’ll tell you everything
tonight.
