Jane is now pacing back
and forth, softly speaking
to herself and wondering
why Kathy would hire a
private detective.
JANE
Why on earth would Kathy
do that? Who could she be
looking into? Who does she
know that needs investigating?
Was it someone at the party?
Someone at the mansion? He
was there… Maybe he was there
on his leisure time? Maybe he
was there just to talk to Kathy?
MR. SIEGENTHALER
Miss Wiedlin, this man’s been
missing for over a year now.
Do you have any idea what happened
to him? You just said that he was
over at your house.. Or mansion, was it?
It is now dawning
on Jane that she
has said too much.
JANE
Yeah, the Go-Go’s have
a mansion in North Palm Springs.
There’s really nothing like it.
MR. SIEGENTHALER
Hmm.. it seems to me I’ve
heard about that. I think
I’ve read about your
“mansion” in the papers.
JANE
Probably. We throw some
pretty outlandish parties.
Sometimes things get out
of hand. There’s usually
a lot of celebrities there,
so it tends to make the news.
MR. SIEGENTHALER
Perhaps he was trailing
one of those celebrities
at the party?
JANE
Yeah, but why would Kathy
hire him to do that?
It doesn’t make any sense.
She’s not involved with
any celebrity that I know of.
MR. SIEGANTHALER
Maybe she’s keeping it from
you and your group. Maybe
she has a boyfriend and she
wants to see if he’s cheating
on her or something like that.
JANE
Right there at the party?!
That doesn’t make any sense.
Besides, if Kathy was dating
a celebrity, believe me, we’d
know about it. That kind of
thing doesn’t slip by us. Besides,
she’d tell us, anyway. We
don’t keep secrets like that
from each other.
MR. SIEGENTHALER
Maybe it was a dignitary..
or a businessman or someone
else besides an entertainer.
JANE
It’s possible… Ya’ know, Kathy
was never questioned by the police
in this man’s disappearance. How
come the cops don’t know this stuff?
MR. SIEGENTHALER
Well.. she’s a celebrity herself.
For that reason, he probably
didn’t keep any records of this
case lying around. Especially if
she paid him in cash and told
him to keep it extra quiet. That
happens a lot in this business.
JANE
But you found out.
MR. SIEGENTHALER
That’s because I’m
very good at my job.
JANE
Ohh, sure…
C’mon, Mr. Siegenthaler,
you can tell me.
MR. SIEGENTHALER
I’d rather not.
JANE
(playing up)
But… Aren’t I the cutest
chick you’ve ever seen
in your life?
MR. SIEGENTHALER
As a matter of fact, you are.
But, that’s not going to sway
me into revealing my sources.
JANE
Yeah, but aren’t you holding
back evidence in a missing
persons case? Isn’t that
against the law?
MR. SIEGENTHALER
I’m afraid I can’t
tell you that either.
JANE
What do you mean, you can’t
tell me that?
Is it against the law or isn’t it?
MR. SIEGENTHALER
I guess you’ll just
have to find that out.
JANE
Maybe I will.
All of a sudden,
Mr. Siegenthaler’s
demeanor becomes
slightly serious.
MR. SIEGENTHALER
And while you’re at it,
Miss Wiedlin… Maybe
you could find out
what else is against the law.
JANE
What do you mean?
MR. SIEGENTHALER
Like murder….
