JANE

Oh, I’m sure he does. What’s
going on with you two, anyway?
Does he wanna marry you?

CHARLOTTE

Marry me? I don’t think so.
He’s a pretty independent
guy. Although, him and his
brother are pretty inseparable.
I think he likes being single..
and free.

JANE

Yeah, but marrying you would
solve a lot of his problems.
It would solve a lot of men’s
problems. You’re an unbelievable
catch, Charlotte. You know
that, don’t you?

CHARLOTTE

I don’t wanna marry Sean.
I don’t think we would
last very long. I don’t
know if I could trust him.

JANE

Oh… well, that’s different…
Too bad, I guess.
He’s hot.

CHARLOTTE

Sounds like you
should marry him.

JANE

Me? Ha-ha, no, that’s okay.
I’m not lookin’ to get married yet.
I’m having too much fun right now.

CHARLOTTE

Yeah, I know whatcha’ mean.
There’s a part of me that wants
to stay single forever… Have my
bed all to myself… Which reminds
me, Sweetie, I hate to cut you off,
but I really need to get there.

JANE
(yawns)
Yeah… I gotta’ go, too.
Another big day tomorrow…
The Go-Go’s must prevail.

CHARLOTTE

I’ll try and see you tomorrow, Jane,
I really will… And if we don’t
get together this week, we’ll get
together this weekend. You
can come over here! We’ll cook-out !
We’ll go swimming… And then we can
write songs all night long.
You know that’s my favorite part
of the day… I love writing songs
with you, Jane.

JANE

Okay, we’ll do that ! … And stop
making me cry before I go to bed !
You always do that !

CHARLOTTE
(amused)
Okay, I’m sorry…
Goodnight, Jane.

JANE

Goodnight, Char.

Charlotte pressed the connection button on the phone, held it down with her thumb and stared straight ahead. Her eyes began clouding up with one, giant tear. She blinked once and several teardrops fell down upon her cheeks. The love and admiration she felt for Jane and her other bandmates was clear in her heart. And, if someone had been standing there, it would be clear to them, as well. Sometimes, it all felt like a magical dream. How could life have handed her this unbelievable fortune? How could she be this lucky when so many other people had so little? It was beyond her scope of comprehension.

Charlotte got up and returned the phone to it’s cradle. Then she grabbed her drink and tossed it down the drain. She rinsed out the glass and set it down in the basin.

She stood there for a moment and contemplated the things that she and Jane talked about. Would Sean be willing to marry her? Would she marry him? Doubtful to both. And what exactly was he, anyway? A boyfriend? A lover? She hated the sound of that last one. All she knew, offhand, was that he treated her decently when he was around and he was nice to look at. After that, there wasn’t a whole lot to elaborate on.

As far as Myles was concerned, Charlotte took comfort in Jane’s words that no one else in the band was interested in him. Was that true? Maybe Jane didn’t know the whole story. What else did she say? If it were meant to be….

Charlotte shook her head and decided that was it for the night. She looked around to tell her kitty-cat that it was time for bed, but Binky was not in the general vicinity. “That’s alright,” she thought to herself. “She’ll find her way up to my bed.”

She turned off the kitchen light and headed upstairs. For some reason, she was really looking forward to the following day.
